Duffy Abyss Horizon

A circle of blue glass and layered wood that seems to descend into deep water. Christopher Duffy gives a coffee table the visual pull of a landscape.

Duffy London Abyss Horizon circular coffee table in layered wood and blue glass, seen from above and the side

A coffee table normally establishes a surface. The Abyss Horizon makes you look through one.

Blue glass steps down between pale layers of wood, suggesting shallows, shelves and an implausibly deep centre. From above, the circular form reads like a fragment of ocean lifted into a room. From the side, the stacked contours expose the construction. Both views matter: the illusion is compelling, and the visible means of making it are almost as interesting.

Christopher Duffy’s table is a particularly good answer to the problem of an expensive object that needs to justify being seen every day. There is no badge at the centre of the experience. There is a change in how depth appears.

The current studio collection offers different sizes and custom work. Separately, Duffy’s Wescover listing for the 2022 edition showed $29,000 against $30,000 original retail on September 10, 2026. That listing provides price context; it is not a universal price or specification for the studio’s current commissions.

Premium Test

Leave the surface visible

An ordinary coffee table offers the practical baseline: a stable place for a cup, a book and the remote. The Horizon’s premium is largely artistic. The wood and glass make a landscape out of a piece of furniture, and the circular outline lets that landscape be approached from different directions.

That suggests a specific kind of room. The table should have breathing space, with seating placed so the top can actually be seen. If its surface will disappear beneath magazines, trays and charging cables, much of what you paid for disappears with it.

Compare it with buying a simpler table and putting the art elsewhere. The Horizon is compelling when you want the furniture itself to be the room’s main visual event. It is less convincing when the room already has several objects competing for that role.

The Catch

Beautiful depth does not make delivery simple. The creator’s 2022-edition listing specifies 125kg and US shipping at $2,500, with kerbside delivery. Those terms need reconfirming for the actual order, but they reveal the kind of ownership question to settle early: who moves it from the street to its final position?

Ask for the chosen piece’s dimensions, weight, access requirements, care instructions and repair options in writing. View a sample or finished piece under light similar to your room’s. Photography can introduce the optical effect; it cannot tell you how reflections will behave beside your windows.

The Row

For a room with one extraordinary centre

We admire the Horizon as furniture that invites another look. Consider it when a functional sculpture is the purpose of the purchase and you are prepared to plan the room around it. Decline it if easy moving, concealed storage or a surface you can treat casually matters more. The table succeeds by making the familiar act of looking down feel unfamiliar.
