Garmin Approach S70 42 mm
A $649.99 golf watch that tries to justify itself by collapsing yardage, course mapping, club decisions and everyday smartwatch duties onto one wrist.

The Approach S70 is interesting because the hardware premium is tied to a very specific user: the golfer who wants more than front-middle-back yardages. Garmin preloads more than 43,000 CourseView maps and layers in a virtual caddie, PlaysLike distance, hazard information, green views, shot tracking and broader health and fitness functions.
The 42 mm version uses a 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen, ceramic bezel and Gorilla Glass 3. Garmin lists it at 44 grams, up to 10 days in smartwatch mode and up to 15 hours in GPS mode.
What we know
What does the premium buy?
The rational baseline is a cheaper golf GPS watch that gives front-middle-back yardages. S70's premium buys detailed course mapping, PlaysLike adjustments, virtual-caddie logic, shot-data integration and a capable everyday smartwatch. If those layers do not change decisions on the course, it is over-instrumentation.
Best for avid golfers who use course intelligence
The S70 is rational for golfers who actually consult mapping, environmental adjustments and shot history throughout a round. Players who mostly want a yardage number should spend much less.
The catch
Some advanced features depend on a paired phone, optional club sensors or an active Garmin Golf membership. A watch this capable can also become another screen competing with the actual round.
