Lodge 12-Inch Cast Iron Skillet
One of the cheapest objects on Row & Ledger—and one of the easiest to defend on material, durability and usefulness.

Lodge's 12-inch skillet is a useful counterweight to premium-product theater. It is made in the USA, seasoned with vegetable oil and built from a material whose appeal is simple: excellent heat retention, broad compatibility and very little to break.
The skillet can move from stovetop to oven, grill or campfire. That versatility matters more than polish.
What we know
What does the premium buy?
There is almost no luxury premium to explain. The rational baseline and the recommendation are nearly the same object: inexpensive cast iron whose value comes from material simplicity, heat retention, broad compatibility and longevity rather than added features.
Benchmark · Value without theater
The Lodge is the reference point for why Row & Ledger is not a luxury publication. It solves the job cheaply, durably and with almost nothing decorative in the economic case.
The catch
Cast iron is heavy and needs basic drying/oiling discipline. If low weight and dishwasher convenience matter more than thermal mass, this is the wrong pan.
