Louis Vuitton Cocoon
A $98,000 hanging chair. Fiberglass, calfskin, wool cushions and the Campana Brothers turn “somewhere to sit” into collectible suspended sculpture.

The Cocoon is one of the clearest examples of Louis Vuitton's Objets Nomades idea: travel-house leathercraft translated into furniture. Its perforated fiberglass shell is lined in calfskin, the interior is quilted, and the entire 28-kilogram object can hang from the ceiling or sit on a stand.
The evidence sheet
Furniture as fashion-scale collectible
The functional explanation ends quickly. The premium lives in edition scarcity, material execution, designer authorship and the fact that almost no guest will mistake it for something ordered from a normal furniture store.
Admire
Ridiculous, sculptural and genuinely memorable. A useful reminder that the $7,000 Eames elsewhere in the archive is apparently the fiscally conservative chair.
The catch
The price is approximately the same as furnishing several very good rooms. Also, suspended luxury furniture still requires a ceiling capable of participating.
