Perplexity Max
A research subscription for people who want the web, several frontier models and agentic tooling collapsed into one working surface.

Why it matters
The editorial question is whether consolidation improves the quality of the work or merely concentrates several subscriptions behind one bill. Model choice and automated research can speed exploration, but source judgment, verification and synthesis remain with the user. Max is most defensible where those workflows are already frequent and measured; curiosity alone does not create two thousand dollars of annual value.
The evidence sheet
The premium is orchestration
Max is less about one superior model than about reducing research friction: real-time web grounding, multi-model comparison, deeper research and agentic work in one place.
Best for research-heavy work
Expensive next to standard AI plans, but coherent if you routinely pay with your time to verify, compare and synthesize information.
The catch
The value collapses quickly if your work is mostly drafting, casual search or occasional prompting. Max is a volume-and-workflow product.
