Steinway Model D Spirio | r
A nine-foot concert grand that can record, edit and physically replay a performance through its own action. Current near-new examples live around quarter-million-dollar territory.

Spirio | r adds something unusually coherent to the already extravagant Model D: high-resolution recording and playback that uses the piano itself as the reproduction system. The instrument can capture hammer velocity and pedal behavior, edit the performance and then physically recreate it later.
The evidence sheet
Technology that respects the object
The interesting part is that Steinway did not turn the piano into a touchscreen appliance. The digital layer disappears into the instrument and makes the acoustic mechanism more useful rather than visually replacing it.
Admire
One of the rare six-figure technology products where the software makes the centuries-old physical object more magical.
The catch
Steinway does not publish a simple current US MSRP for every Model D Spirio | r configuration. The quarter-million-dollar figure is a current market reference from a 2024 example, not a universal new-instrument quote.
Dimensions and system details are manufacturer-stated. Market-price reference is from a current 2026 listing and may vary materially by instrument. Row & Ledger has not played this piano.
