TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Carbon
A 1970s racing reference rebuilt as a lightweight carbon flagship instead of a nostalgia exercise.

Why it matters
The carbon case does more than modernize the specification. Its irregular surface disrupts the polished preciousness expected at this price and lets the old cushion shape feel technical again. The counterargument is equally strong: collectors can find deeper historical connection in vintage Monza references, while contemporary chronographs offer comparable mechanics with less narrative attached.
The evidence sheet
The material changes the reference
Forged carbon, a flyback movement and 100-meter water resistance move the Monza beyond costume vintage. The historical shape remains, but the object belongs to the present.
Heritage, without the reenactment
The case works because the past supplies the proportion, not the whole argument.
The catch
At this price, the historical connection has to matter personally. Otherwise there are quieter chronographs with equally serious mechanics.
