Apple Studio Display (2026)
A $1,599 monitor whose premium case is integration: true 5K density, camera, speakers, microphones, charging and Mac-native behavior in one object.

The current Studio Display keeps the 27-inch 5120×2880 Retina panel at 218 pixels per inch and 600 nits, then updates the surrounding workstation architecture with Thunderbolt 5 and up to 96W host charging. Apple also integrates a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View, six-speaker audio and a three-microphone array.
That makes it less interesting as a pure panel comparison than as a one-cable Mac desk. The buyer is paying for the display and for removing several peripheral decisions around it.
What is actually here
What does the premium buy?
A strong 27-inch 4K display costs far less, and higher-refresh alternatives exist. Studio Display earns the premium through true 5K scaling on macOS plus unusually complete camera, microphone, speaker and hub integration.
Best for Mac-native desks
For someone who wants one polished cable-to-Mac workstation, the package is coherent. Buyers prioritizing 120Hz, HDR performance or included height adjustment should resist the Apple fit-and-finish premium.
The Catch
The base display is still 60Hz, and height adjustment costs extra. At this price, those omissions are meaningful rather than academic, especially for buyers comparing against gaming or HDR-focused monitors.
Confirm the Mac before buying
Apple’s 2026 compatibility list specifies Apple-silicon Macs with macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 or later. Other devices may output video, but their resolution and refresh depend on the device; that does not establish full feature parity with a supported Mac.
